Research shows gas networks can be repurposed to 100% hydrogen

A three-year research project by UK operator, National Gas Transmission, has shown gas transmission networks can be repurposed for 100% hydrogen.

This is critical to the development of the hydrogen industry as it demonstrates that the energy source can be connected to existing infrastructure, which is attractive to both the government and private sectors.

Additionally, existing electrical grids can integrate hydrogen in a cost-effective way, a key advantage over wind and solar, which require the construction of costly and environmentally damaging transmission lines.

Given this, UHL believes we should focus on building the hydrogen economy alongside wind and solar, as a strong energy mix can provide a holistic solution to the net-zero transition.
